Weird animal #2 – the pink fairy armadillo

Time for a second instalment of my ‘weird animal’ series! This time, something a little more cuddly: the pink fairy armadillo.

The Pink Fairy Armadillo

The pink fairy is a type of armadillo, a small burrowing mammal species with thick armour plating. Their armour is composed of overlapping scutes, which are anatomically most like a coating of flat horns. There are 20 species of armadillo, which are found only in the Americas. The word ‘armadillo’ is Spanish for ‘little armoured one’, and the pink fairy is the smallest of them all, at only 10cm long. It lives in Patagonia, where it burrows into ant hills and eats their young.

But mostly, it just looks like a Pokémon.
